The essentials
Your induction is built around four simple areas. Here's what each one covers and where to find what you need.
🗓️ Your First Week
The first few days are all about settling in, meeting people and getting set up. There's nothing to memorise — your buddy and People Manager will walk you through it.
What to expect
- Arriving on day one: Head to reception at your site (Contoso House, or your local office) where someone will be expecting you.
- Your ID badge: You'll be issued a security pass for building access — keep it with you on site.
- Meet your buddy: A friendly colleague who'll show you around and answer the everyday questions.
- Meet your manager: Everyone at Contoso has a People Manager — they're your main point of contact and the person who leads your team. If you're ever unsure who your manager is, your offer letter, the HR system and your team introductions on day one will all make it clear, and the People Team can confirm it for you.
- Induction sessions: Short welcome sessions introduce you to Contoso, your team and how things work.
- What to wear: The dress code is smart-casual and relaxed — wear what you feel comfortable in (jeans are fine on a normal day).
💷 Pay & Benefits
Everything to do with being paid and the benefits open to you as a Contoso colleague. If anything's unclear, the People Team are happy to help.
What's included
- Payday: You're paid monthly, on the last working day of each month, directly into your bank account.
- Contoso share scheme: Eligible colleagues can receive free shares in the company — a way of sharing in our success together.
- Holiday: A generous annual leave allowance, booked through the HR system with your People Manager's approval.
- Pension & perks: A workplace pension, plus a range of discounts, wellbeing support and staff offers.
💻 Systems & IT
Getting set up with the kit and logins you need. Most of this is sorted on day one, and the IT Service Desk is there whenever you get stuck.
What's involved
- Your laptop: Provided on day one and set up for your role, with help getting signed in.
- Getting a new or replacement laptop: If your laptop is faulty, lost, or you need different kit for your role, the IT Service Desk is the place to go — raise a request with them (your manager can approve anything that's needed) and they'll sort a repair or replacement.
- Logins & passwords: You'll set up your single sign-on, which gives you access to most systems in one go.
- Key systems: The HR system for pay and holiday, the intranet (the Hub), and Microsoft 365 and Teams for everyday work.
- IT Service Desk: Your first port of call for any tech issue — from a new laptop to a forgotten password — and they're friendly and quick to help.
🎉 Culture & Ministry of Fun
Contoso is known for being a great place to work, and a lot of that comes down to our people and our culture. This area is all about feeling part of it.
What's on offer

- Staff networks & communities: Welcoming groups you can join to meet people and feel at home.
- Wellbeing support: Resources and people to help you look after your health, both at work and at home.
- Recognition & socials: Ways colleagues say thank you to one another, plus regular get-togethers.
